- Shikoku Electric Power (in Japanese): Shikoku Electric Power withdraws from FY2024 Long-Term Decarbonized Power Source Auction, citing difficulties in building fuel supply chains.
- Hokkaido Electric Power (in Japanese): In the FY2025 Long-Term Decarbonized Power Source Auction, the company won a bid for 132.2 MW of capacity through a retrofit project to convert the Tomato-Atsuma Power Station Unit 4 from coal-fired to ammonia co-firing. Operations are scheduled to begin in FY2032.
- Kobe Steel (Kobelco Power Kobe): Kobe Steel’s subsidiary “Kobelco Power Kobe” successfully won the Long-Term Decarbonization Power Source Auction for FY2025.
- TOSO Company (in Japanese): Following the start of biomass power generation in April 2026, TOSO announced the phase-out of an old coal-fired unit, but it is unclear which unit was decommissioned (and, therefore, this has not been reflected in the countdown). Currently, the plant co-fires four types of fuel, including coal, but plans to switch to biomass-only combustion in the future.

- Shikoku Electric Power (in Japanese): Decommissioning of aging oil-fired thermal units (Anan Unit 3 & Sakaide Unit 3)
- Chugoku Electric Power (in Japanese): Chugoku Electric Power has submitted and distributed a public review of the “Draft Environmental Impact Statement (draft EIS) for the Yanai Power Station Unit 2 Replacement Project.” The public review period runs from 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, through Friday, June 26, 2026. Comments need to be submitted from Wednesday, May 13, 2026, through Friday, June 26, 2026.
- Kansai Electric Power: On May 18, Kansai Electric Power announced that it has decided to proceed with a renewal project at the Himeji No.1 Power Station Units 5 and 6 (with a combined capacity of approximately 1,442 MW) into 3 units of 650 MW (with a combined capacity of approximately 1,950 MW). With the introduction of hydrogen, ammonia, and CCUS also under consideration, operations are scheduled to begin in FY2033 or later.
