●J-POWER announced Takasago Thermal Power Station Decommissioning Plan
As J-POWER mentioned the decision to discontinue of Takasago Thermal Power Station in its “J-POWER Group Medium-Term Management Plan 2024-2026,” it officially announced to shut down 2 units by the end of FY2028.

●Kansai Electric Power (KEPCO) Gobo Power Station Decomission Plan
KEPCO announced plans to shut units at the oil-fired Gobo Power Station in Wakayama Prefecture. KEPCO is preparing to decommission the No. 1 in June 30, 2026 and No. 2 in October 31, 2025. While Units 1-2 will be decommissioned, the fate of Unit 3 remains undecided. Gobo Thermal Power Station began operations in 1984, but Unit 2 had been mothbolded since 2019. By FY2024, KEPCO’s oil-fired thermal power generation accounts for less than 1%, and oil-fired thermal power station other than Gobo will also be closed step by step.

●Tohoku Electric Power : Plan to shut down Niigata Thermal Power Station
Tohoku Electric Power announced that plans to decommission Niigata Thermal Power Station’s last operational unit, the LNG-fired Unit 5, in March 2028. Consequently, all power generation units at the Niigata Thermal Power Station will be decommissioned.

●JERA : Decommissioning of 5 aging units
JERA announced that it decommissioned Anegasaki Thermal Power Station Units 5 and 6, Sodegaura Thermal Power Station Unit 1, Chita Thermal Power Station Unit 5, and Hirono Thermal Power Station Unit 2 (total 3,254MW) on September 30, 2025. JERA is proceeding with plans for new installations or replacements.
