【Database Update】Latest status of coal-fired power plants (June 1, 2024)


Japan Beyond Coal database update:

Operating: 169 Units
Planned (including under construction): 1 Units
Retired: 7 Units

In its “Medium-Term Management Plan 2024-2026”, J-POWER announced that few units would be discontinued or made into a reserve power source by 2030.
・Matsushima Thermal Power Plant, Unit 1 (decommissioned at the end of FY2024)
・Takasago Thermal Power Plant, Unit 1 and 2 (decommissioned by 2030)
・Takehara Thermal Power Plant, Unit 3 (discontinued or made into a reserve power source by 2030)
・Matsuura Thermal Power Plant, Unit 1 (discontinued or made into a reserve power source by 2030)

JERA’s Taketoyo Thermal Power Station has not been opeating since fire accident in January.
