【Database Update】Latest status of coal-fired power plants (November 1, 2023)


Japan Beyond Coal database update:

On October 31, J-POWER announced that Matsushima Power Station (Nagasaki Prefecture) Unit 1 will be shutdown at the end of FY2024 and Unit 2 will be deactivated for the GENESIS Matsushima project. In addition, it indicated that GENESIS Matsushima schedule as it start operation in 2026 will be changed to start construction in 2026 and start operation in 2028.

Expanding Ammonia Co-firing Experiment
Following the ammonia co-firing experiment at the Reihoku Power Station Unit 1 (Kumamoto Prefecture), Kyushu Electric Power announced that it will conduct the second ammonia co-firing experiment at the Matsuura Power Station Unit 2 (Nagasaki Prefecture) starting November 2. This experiment will be conducted for about one week by mixing ammonia equivalent to 0.1% of the calorific value.
