【Database Update】Latest status of coal-fired power plants (March 1, 2025)


As of March 1, 2025, the number of operating units remains unchanged.
However, on February 27, Hokuriku Electric Power announced that it would keep operating Toyama Shinkou Power Station Unit 1 (Imizu City, Toyama Prefecture), which was scheduled to shut down at the end of FY2024, until FY2028, to ensure a stable power supply. This is a step backward toward the early coal phase-out.

●Company name change
Tobata Co-operative Thermal Power (Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture) merged with Oita Co-operative Thermal Power as of October 1, 2024, and changed its name to Kyushu Co-operative Power Company. Thus, JBC changed the name of the operating company for the Tobata Co-operative Thermal Power Plant (3 units).
