This report, released by Carbon Tracker, Institute for Future Initiatives University of Tokyo, and CDP Japan, shows that there are concerns that coal-fired power plants currently planned and operating in Japan may become stranded assets. The cost reduction of renewable energy in 2025 will lead to a reduction in the capacity factor and electricity charges of coal-fired power plants.
