JBC has updated the data after confirming that some units have been suspended or decommissioned.

[Status update of coal-fired power unit]
- Sumitomo Osaka Cement announced it would suspend operation of Unit 5 (approximately 102,500 kW) at the Ako Power Plant (with no restoration scheduled) as of March 29.
Notice: Suspension of Ako Plant Ako Power Plant - Kyushu Electric Power decommissioned the Karita New Unit 1 (360,000 kW) on June 30.
Kyushu Electric Power PR: Decommissioning of the Buzen Power Plant Unit 2 and the Karita Power Plant New Unit 1 of the Kanda Power Plant. - Hibikinada Power Station Co. has suspended operations of Hibikinada Power Station Unit 1 (112,000 kW) to allow for equipment modifications to resume operations as a biomass mono-fired in FY2026. Since the equipment modifications have progressed, JBC decided to classify it as “retired” as a coal-fired power unit.
[Information other than coal]
- On August 6, Hokkaido Electric Power announced the start of construction on the Ishikariwan Shinko Power Station Unit 2 (a natural gas-fired power plant; Units 1–3 have a combined capacity of 1,729,400 kW).
Hokkaido Electric is planning to begin commercial operation in FY 2030. The company has already secured a capacity allocation contract for 551.2 MW in the FY 2023 long-term decarbonized power source auction.
[Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)]
- Kiko Network submitted written opinions (written in Japanese) regarding the “EIA Scoping Document for (Tentative Name) the Sodegaura Thermal Power Station New Units 1–3 Construction Project.”
- Miike Thermal Power Co. (subsidiary of CEF F2) submitted the EIA Scoping Document for the Miike Thermal Power Plant Unit 2 (175,000 kW) in Omuta City, Fukuoka Prefecture. This plan is for converting the unit from a coal-fired power to hydrogen-fired (from co-firing at the beginning to mono-firing in the future). It secured a capacity allocation contract for 146.4 MW in the long-term decarbonized power source auction.
