●Tokuyama Central Power Station, Unit 9
Tokuyama Corporation, a chemical manufacturer based in Shunan-shi, Yamaguchi Prefecture, announced that it would consider phasing out between 2030 and 2035 one of the four thermal power units (Unit 9, subcritical, 149 MW) located on its manufacturing site. The company plans to purchase the necessary electricity from Chugoku Electric Power. Additionally, it also plans to convert one of the remaining three units to biomass co-firing and start operation in the fall of FY 2025, targeting a biomass co-firing rate of approximately 25% by heat content.

●Yokosuka Thermal Power Station
JERA has announced plans to conduct demonstration testing using Kawasaki Heavy Industries’ carbon capture equipment at Yokosuka Thermal Power Station (Yokosuka-shi, Kanagawa Prefecture) which is operated by JERA subsidiary JERA Power Yokosuka, by FY2030. The company plans to install KHI’s CO2 separation and capture equipment on a pilot scale by FY2030 and conduct demonstration testing of the separation, capture, and effective utilization of CO2 contained in gas emitted from thermal power generation.
